Getting interested in phonetics

🇫🇷 Hier, j’ai commencé à regarder un imagier pour enfant en breton. Mais je n’arrivais pas à prononcer les mots, ça ne devenait pas concret pour moi. J’ai donc passé ma session d’apprentissage du breton à consulter des documents sur l’alphabet breton et la phonétique bretonne (j’ai notamment trouvé cette base de cours sur la Wikiversité).

Dans l’imagier, je suis tombée sur un schéma passionnant sur les voyelles ouvertes et fermées, antérieures et postérieures, sonores et sourdes, nasalisées…

J’ai appris que les voyelles sont obtenues uniquement en modifiant la forme de la cavité bucale et en les faisant résonner ou non dans le nez. Je n’avais jamais réfléchi à tout ça 😊

🇺🇸 Yesterday, I started to look at a picture book for children in Breton. But I could not pronounce the words, it couldn’t become concrete for me. So I spent my Breton learning session to consult documents about the Breton alphabet and Breton phonetics (I found this course base on Wikiversity).

In the picture book, I came across an exciting graph about open and closed vowels, anterior and posterior, sonorous and deaf, nasalized …

I learned that vowels are obtained only by modifying the shape of the oral cavity and making them resonate or not in the nose. I never thought about it all 😊
